In the company of our guide, this bike ride explores the saltpans of the Natural Park of Ria Formosa. Our bike tour starts from Vila Galé Albacora – in Arraial Ferreira Neto, formerly a fisherman's village dedicated to tuna fishing, and we explore this protected area in the South of Portugal.
We cross the bridge over the river Gilão, which has a stunning view over the city of Tavira. Enjoy the stop and take some photos of the Algarve. From this point we have lovely views of the Castle of Tavira. We continue and pass by some of the churches of Tavira, the former Convent of Bernardas.
Cycling right next to the Ria Formosa we have an amazing landscape to admire with the beach of Barril and the island of Tavira on our horizon. One of the mandatory stops is the Lota, where and depending on the time of the day, you can witness the fishermen hustle trading the octopus and other seafood that is caught everyday in the Ria Formosa.
On our way back you can take photos of the traditional fishing boats of the Algarve, nowadays also being used for boat tours in the Ria Formosa. This is our suggestion for a lovely bike ride for those on holiday in the Algarve or just looking for something during the weekend.
