Experience marine life on the Algarve coast with the possibility of seeing dolphins, seabirds, and sea turtles in their natural habitat!
On this boat trip, we sail through the beautiful waters of Portugal’s south coast on an adventure led by an expert nature tour guide.
This boat tour in the Algarve is the perfect way to learn about our region’s diverse marine life while watching the animals in their natural habitat.
This immersive experience is best shared with family and friends aboard the Albacora III – a comfortable and safe RIB.
The boat tour in the Algarve is approximately 2 hours long. During this time, we leave the calm waters of Ria Formosa and head out towards the blue ocean, reaching up 5 miles offshore. We travel along the Algarve coastline, passing barrier islands and the Santa Maria Cape (Portugal’s southernmost point) in the quest for dolphins and other marine wildlife.
We may see several species of cetaceans, the most sighted being the Common Dolphin (Delphinus delphis) and Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncates). Seabirds are a constant presence. The species we see the most are the Northern Gannet (Morus bassanus), Balearic Shearwater (Puffinus mauretanicus), Mediterranean Gull (Larus melanocephalus), and several species of Storm-petrels. Seagulls are, of course, also a common sighting, especially when we pass by fishing boats.
There is also the possibility of observing other marine wildlife species such as sea turtles, the Ocean Sunfish (Mola mola), and sharks. Occasionally, we may also see other cetaceans species such as the Harbour Porpoise (Phocoena phocoena) and the Minke Whale (Balaenoptera acutorostrata).
When this exciting experience at sea ends, we return to Faro, passing back through the stunning landscapes of Ria Formosa. If you have any questions about this marine life and dolphin watching boat trip from Faro, Portugal, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
